Badenoch Ladies Shinty Club

Badenoch Ladies Shinty Club was started by Jane Nicol in 2008 and has made steady progress towards the top of the sport. The team began in North Division 2 and won the league and the Caledonian Canal Challenge Cup in their first season. The club remained in North Division 2 to enable the inexperienced team to consolidate their game. In 2009 we retained both trophies without losing a single league or cup match from starting in 2008 to the end of 2009.

The next major success for the Club came in 2013 when the team won the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup, beating Glasgow Mid-Argyll 3-1 in a close final on the Eilan. Jane Nicol, who had started the Club in 2008, was playing in her last match and scored the third goal.

The Club appointed coaches Scott Campbell and Iain Robinson and they took the Club to its next major success in 2018 when the team won the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup in a close final in the Dell which finished Badenoch 4 v Skye 2.

The team has regularly produced players who have been selected for the International team, and the players and coaches have regularly won National awards. The girls are a friendly bunch and like to train as well as enjoying a bit of banter! They currently train once a week at the Dell in Kingussie. For season 2022 the Club is starting a Second Team which will be run by Coaches Douglas Coombes and Julie MacWhirter.

The Club has a close link to Kingussie Camanachd Club and the players also regularly contribute to community fundraising. To contact the Club send an email to:  badenochshinty@outlook.com
